I am inspired by the natural world around me each day — vertical forms, strong shadows, moments of transition, and meandering paths that disappear into distance. These elements move me because they speak to change, resilience, and possibility.
My work has been shaped by living in dramatically different landscapes, the desert Southwest, Tropical Pacific, and Pacific Northweset, where the coastal light and shifting tides now influence my palette and compositions. I have studied art in the United States and abroad.
Many of my paintings begin en plein air and are sometimes developed further in the studio. Over time I have transitioned from brushes to painting knives, drawn to the directness and physicality of the mark. I work in oil, occasionally creating studies in watercolor, and I use non-toxic, permanent, lightfast pigments to ensure the longevity of the work.
Through these landscapes, I aim to capture not just a place, but a moment — light shifting, weather passing, and the quiet presence of the land.
